Couple of days ago I strung up the eight guitar I built. It’s the first one I’ve made that is selling quality. There are still some things that kinda bother me about it though.

Top is sitka spruce, EIR B&S, curly koa soundhole rosette, EIR bridge. The sound is great, powerful, clear, and balanced.
The finish is the water-base Target USL. I am disappointed in it for the most part. It is very soft, but what really bothers me about it is it’s not crystal clear. Inside a house with regular light bulbs it looks clear, but in certain types of natural light you can see an extremely slight bluish tint. I’m going to try KTM-9 next. From what I’ve read I understand it is harder and crystal clear.

I know the pics aren’t great. It’s always better in real life.

You may find some of that bluing clears up after time, Ive not used the target usl, but the KTM4a had the same effect, it did however gain some clarity after time.
Got harder too.

Looks beautiful Colby. You might want to try French Polishing if you want something thin, hard and non-toxic ( assuming you don't use DA and use Ethanol instead).

I put a drop of amber in the Target USL, which gets rid of any bluish tinge anywhere, just in the first few coats. Can't say that either of the guitars (my first acoustic and one electric) had any 'blue' tinge to them, unlike the Crystallac I used way, way back when. It is soft, but it does continue to toughen up over time.

Great job! I like the body shape, rosette and bridge design the best. Can we have some pics of the peghead? Beautifully executed. You are getting great at this. So what's next?

Great looking guitar. give the KTM a try I think you will like it. I just finished a guitar and used the KTM for the first time. It came out clear as could be. I will get pics up soon.

It really looks great Colby! I love the body shape too. Is that shape your own design, or did it come from a set of plans?

Thanks for the nice comments! I drew out the body shape and the bridge design myself. As for the next guitar I’m going to use the small jumbo plans that I got here on the OLF.

Good job Colby. It looks really nice.
BTW, I am sending a guitar to ASIA with Craig Lavin that is finished in KTM-9 and the first thing I am going to do is refinish the guitar in nitro when it gets back. It has the blues in the sunshine. Indoors is fine, but over the darker wood of the back it has that blue tint.

Also, it seems to be too soft for my technique. Very aggravatingly, I just burned through the finish on the back, which I never do with nitro.
